Bamber Bridge U23's 4 - 0 Barnoldswick Town
Under 23s start the season in style with a home win.
The new Under 23s team started their first season in the Lancashire Football League East Division with a convincing win 4-0 against Barnoldswick Town at Irongate on Tuesday night.
After a closely contested opening 45 minutes, it looked as though the two sides would head into the break level. However, Brig were awarded a penalty in first-half stoppage time, with Billy Bould making no mistake from the spot to give the hosts a crucial lead at the interval.
Brig doubled their lead just two minutes after the restart through Temiloluwa Ajibola.
Ajibola struck again on 65 minutes to put the game firmly beyond Barnoldswick’s reach, before an own goal eight minutes from time completed an excellent 4-0 victory.
A highly encouraging start to the campaign, with the new Brig side putting in a confident performance to open the season with three points.
After the match, U23s manager, Louis Bonnage shared his thoughts:
“Great start to the new campaign. I thought we played brilliantly throughout.
We probably should have been a few goals ahead before the end of the first half, but the timing of Billy’s goal was important. Had we gone in level at half-time it would have given Barnoldswick a boost, so scoring right before the break served us really well.
Some of the football we played throughout was fantastic, and the link-up play from some of the young lads was great to see.
A hugely positive start in front of a decent crowd is exactly what we wanted as we set off on this new adventure.
Overall, really, really pleased.”
