Chorley FC Women 7 - 9 Bamber Bridge (Pre-season Friendly)

Bamber Bridge Women Manager Louisa McCarney shares her thoughts as the Ironesses are victorious in a 16 goal thriller.

The newly formed Bamber Bridge Women (The Ironesses) continued their pre-season preparations on Sunday with a friendly against Chorley Women.

After the match, Ironesses Manager Louisa McCarney shared her match report:

"What a game! A 9–7 win against Chorley in an entertaining and hard-fought match.

We started slowly and found ourselves 2–1 down after 15 minutes, but Emma Johnson and Karen White got us back level. From there, our intensity increased, particularly off the ball, and winning those individual midfield battles was key.

We went into half-time 5–2 ahead, with goals from Carmel Shaw, Nicole Sutcliffe and Denva Coupland, including a brilliant solo effort from Nicole and a fantastic long-range strike from Denva.

We spoke at half-time about pushing for more goals while keeping the ball better. We did exactly that, with Emma, Carmel and Karen adding further goals, including Karen completing her hat-trick with a superb strike.

Chorley never gave up and a strong 10-minute spell brought them back to 9–7, but we showed great determination and togetherness to see the game out.

I’m really pleased with the performance and the minutes in the legs. A special mention to Chloe Moncrief and Lisa Greenhaulgh on their debuts — both were excellent.

The togetherness in this group is really starting to show. One more training session before the season starts, and this result gives us plenty of confidence heading into our opener against Morecambe.

Well done, girls!"

Goalscorers:  Karen White (3), Emma Johnson (2), Carmel Shaw (2), Nicole Sutcliffe , Denva Coupland
