Paul McKenna Appointed First Team Manager

Club confirms ex Preston North End and Bamber Bridge midfielder as new first team manager.

Bamber Bridge Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul McKenna as the club’s new First Team Manager.

A familiar face to Bamber Bridge supporters, McKenna needs little introduction at Irongate. A former first team player and popular member of the club’s veterans side, Paul returns to take the reins of the senior squad as the club looks ahead to an exciting new chapter.

McKenna enjoyed an outstanding playing career spanning more than two decades, establishing himself as one of the most respected midfielders of his generation. A product of Preston North End’s youth system, he made over 400 appearances for the Lilywhites and captained the club during some of the most memorable periods in its recent history.

Following his departure from Deepdale, Paul was recruited to captain Nottingham Forest, before going on to represent Hull City and Fleetwood Town, bringing his trademark professionalism, leadership and quality wherever he played.

Brig supporters will also fondly remember McKenna’s spell with the club. He signed for Bamber Bridge in September 2014, bringing a wealth of Football League experience to Irongate. He remained with the club until announcing his retirement from playing in December 2015.

Since hanging up his boots, Paul has remained involved in football through coaching, gaining valuable experience working within the Preston North End Academy and a brief spell alongside another PNE legend, Lee Ashcroft, at Longridge Town FC.

A UEFA A Licence qualified coach, McKenna brings a strong understanding of the game, combining his extensive professional playing career with his coaching qualifications and experience developing players.

Paul now takes the next step in his football journey as he embarks on his first senior First Team Managerial appointment. His knowledge of the game, leadership qualities and existing connection with Bamber Bridge make him an exciting appointment as the club looks to build for the future.

The club is also pleased to confirm that Neil Crowe, Mick Taylor and Stuart Barton will continue as part of Paul’s first team coaching staff, ensuring valuable continuity, stability and experience within the management team as Paul begins his new role.

Everyone at Bamber Bridge Football Club would like to welcome Paul to his new position and wish him every success as we begin this exciting new chapter together.

McKenna’s First Matches in Charge:

Paul’s first game in charge will see Brig travel to Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday 31st October, with a 3pm kick-off.

His first home game at Irongate is currently scheduled for Saturday 7th November when Bury FC are the visitors (3pm kick-off).

The visit of Bury promises to be a fantastic occasion and the perfect opportunity for the Brig faithful to welcome Paul back to Irongate in his new role.

We encourage all supporters to get behind Paul, his coaching staff and the players as we look forward to a new era at Bamber Bridge Football Club.

One Club. One Community. One Brig.
